Are you tired of not having money in your savings account? If you have a hard time saving money, you’re like many people around the world. Sometimes you may not notice how much money you spend on coffee a week or spend on buying lunch during your break. I learned to save money by putting money away every week. If I’m willing to spend money on coffee than what I spend on that coffee is also what I put away towards my savings. Many people can leave it in their bank account. However, I am not one of them. What has helped me save money is putting it away in cash envelopes. Every week, I put money in two separate envelopes and then seal it in said envelope. I’ve labeled envelopes from $1 – $102 by the end of the year I’ve saved over $5,000. This has helped me when not touching the money I’ve saved as I put it away in a shoe box. You can start saving whenever, however be aware that by the time you’ve filled up all 102 envelopes you’ll have saved over $5,000. I like to use colorful envelopes and what I’ve done is I have the numbers facing away from me once I’ve sealed them off, so that I know that I’ve already filled that envelope. What I do is I will fill a lower number envelope and a higher one every week, this way I am ensuring that the larger amounts don’t get filled last.

The hardest step towards saving is the first step. Once you start saving you’ll want to see it through until the end. At the end of the year you’ll be glad that you started. You can use this method for an emergency stash, towards buying a house, vacation money, etc. Anything you really want to use it for.

You only need two items you can start by buying envelopes, (they should have them at your local dollar store) a shoe box, then you start filling two numbered envelopes with the amount written on each of the envelopes twice a week. Pick which day you want to fill in the envelopes to make it consistent. It may seem a bit overwhelming at first, however once you start saving you’ll want to see it through to the very end. You can save more than five thousand if you do two sets of this. You can start any time of the year, and you’ll still save once your 365 days are done. At the end of your savings year, you can continue your savings amount, or restart. If you have that amount saved you can deposit it into your savings, or keep it put away safely. I find that once I’ve sealed the envelope I don’t open them, because I know what my end goal is.

I’ve included a video to show you what I’ve done with my envelopes to get started.
